Kid's Board Game Project-Percy Jackson Board Game

This was a project that I helped my brother do. He had to make a board game for his 6th grade English class based on a book he had read. He recently finished the Percy Jackson book series, so he choose to make the game based on Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief, the first book in the series.

First we took business cards, but you could use regular squares of paper. Then we colored in the front of the business cards with a black sharpie. These were what were used as the game laying cards, we had 25 business cards in all. There were Money Cards, Weapon Cards, Trap cards(you lose one turn), and Book Trivia cards.

Next we made the board. We had a piece of cardboard already so we used that as the board, then I drew some lines for the squares you land on. We had some Styrofoam so we used that in the middle of the board to hold the cards, the game players(we used Lego guys) and the dice. We also cut out "lightning bolts" out of the leftover cardboard we had. Then we had a plastic tube that had Christmas ornaments in it, but it was empty, so we just drew windows on it and used it as a tall building(a reference to the end of the book).

After the board had it's lines drawn and the basic set up we put a sticky note on each square for what move should be on it. There were two Monster Squares, where we tied Lego monsters to it. You would need a weapon card to get past the monsters and advance in the game. At the end of the game you had to go to Ares war and roll snake eyes to advance. Then if you had $2 drachma and your lightning bolt(which you pick up on a square) then you win the game! It was a very cute game and it was fun to craft something with my brother, Aidan.

He took it to school and they were allowed to play all the games on Friday, he had a great time! I think it was such a good idea for a project and it turned out really well, I think he was proud of his work.
